It is really discouraging how much this administration has stomped all over the Constitution, broke one law after another, and is in the process of defying the courts. And the majority of Americans don’t know or are only vaguely aware of the fact that our democratic government is on the precipice of being gone. It’s also discouraging that as well as this democratic experiment was created, that there were not fail safes put in place to protect it from someone like Trump. The fact is that if Trump outright continues to defy the courts, the courts cannot enforce their rulings without law enforcement, which is part of the executive branch. We have no recourse unless Republicans in Congress grow a spine, which is highly unlikely.
We had a chance if three congressional open seats flipped blue, but the one election on Jan 28 resulted in a Republican win. Of the other two, one in Florida is scheduled April 2, with the other in New York not scheduled yet. So we could only get to 218 R and 217 D.
The last result is we the people. There are new 50501 protests scheduled for Feb 17 (President’s Day) https://www.reddit.com/r/50501/s/4Ybguik5vo, plus a couple of days of No Spending/No Working (one is March 15). Also some elected members are suggesting that they let the government shut down on March 15 to protest Trump’s actions, so they are learning how to fight back. I am alerting my elected Democratic reps, receiving only pro- forma responses. At a minimum, Dems should refuse to cooperate in any way with the fascistic repulsive majority as they perpetrate pain and suffering on the American people. Just today a judge ruled that the Administration is refusing to comply with a court order to release funds so we are in a Constitutional crisis. I’m assessing my options for responding.
