How can I express what it means to me to hear a man speak like this? You know why it means so much? Because in all my years on the planet I never have. I have never heard a man name these things the way you do. And in my fifties I have grown so exhausted (and sometimes so beaten down) by the patriarchy, that I feel I am losing all the joy I used to have. Reading what you write here makes me cry. It seriously makes me cry.

Makes me even happier I wrote it then, Chandi.

Great column, Earl. Thanks for saying what needs to be said. I am Asian-American, and truly, white people often have no idea what it's like to be a minority. And for white men, that also means what it's like being a woman.

I try to be charitable, up to a point. It takes a next level of understanding, empathy, and self awareness to try to see what it must be like. Some people can do it, others either cannot or don't try.

Thank you! This is the best - and possibly the most important - piece I have read in a very long time! It should be a front-page opinion piece of every single news source in the land!

This needed to be stated and I hope all those who read this realize there is a stark difference between Kamala and Trump. All of our future’s depend on who is our next President, but especially women, POC and immigrants. Sadly, sexism and misogyny run rampant in our country. I take heart in believing there are more good in us than bad. We will win and when Kamala becomes our next President, her ideas, laws and implementation of her policy’s will lift up each of us. She will allow light to shine upon those men who feared a woman of color being at the highest echelon of power. They will see their grievances and bias were incorrect. We will prevail! Vote blue and thank you for your continued outspoken support for what is right, just and needed.

Most of the white men I know are pretty quiet as they digest what I have to say about being female and being safe in our world. It takes a certain amount of empathy, interest and ability to acknowledge others' realities. I'm not saying they are like the MAGAs out there. No, these are decent people who have simply never been told or really thought about what it's like sometimes. But the ones out there you are referring to-- they are the ones we fear, almost to a man they are white men who view the world they are trying to dominate as a zero sum game. You get it. You really get it.

The irony is how truly weak they really are.

Yes, scared/threatened and weak. But really, why? I guess there's a mentality that doesn't see that it's not zero sum.

I would suggest getting out of your echo chamber and start thinking for yourself. If you really think that white men are the greatest threat to women then you should study some statistics lol.

You have offered a very important treatise on the plight of women in this country which has been ongoing for far too long. With more writings like yours perhaps things may change. I know that under the leadership of Kamala Harris there will definitely be a change. However small, that change will mean a great deal to us. Let us keep hoping and working for even more change. Maybe this election will help to wake people up. Grateful for your efforts. All the best, Betty

Well, not all white men are like this but there’s the hard-core that are totally unreachable - we know now what their character is. I’m not remotely interested in talking to them, let them be.

They will find themselves isolated somewhat, perhaps losing friendships, broken family relations and divorce court… right, divorce court. Who can be married to a Trumper?

I appreciate your effort Earl. I think if you convert even one or two, you did a great job. One can only hope.

Who can be married to a Trumper?

I have met many while canvassing, and know others in my circle, my friend.

It is perplexing, because I simply couldn't do it.

I recently chatted with a guy who seemed interesting... until he mentioned taking his monthly dose of Ivermectin! My run in the other direction looked something akin to the Roadrunner. I have so little patience with them that I'm replacing the man who mows my lawn because he put a trump sticker on his truck. There is no way I would date one or be married to one.

Omg, this funny and SO TRUE! Run as fast as you can.

I think if they are a Trump election denier (then they support the insurrection?) chances are their friendly, interesting facade may hide an emotionally controlling individual underneath (if not worse?😒). No wonder most are loners and aggrieved. They don’t respect women and the roles they can play in their lives. It’s really sad when you think about it.

Thank you for this column, Earl! I have little patience with Trump supporters or people who don’t vote. They have NO idea what other people or even their own ancestors went through to get here, even as WHITE people!

These fools who think that anything Trump would do won’t apply to them are in for a big surprise!
