Garland never wanted to prosecute Trump, and now Trump is back with a vengeance. We’re all going to pay the price for it, too

Deeply too 😡✌🏻💙

The weakness & failure of Merrick Garland is on a biblical level.

It really is and I'm a Canadian...watching all very closely in horror. LOVE your Notes...I follow carefully...xoxo

Biden COULD HAVE fired Garland, but didn't. Both Biden and Garland screwed over our country.

Especially when you consider that SCOTUS gave Biden carte blanche to basically do anything as long as it was considered an official presidential action. Are they all in it together? Seriously. I can’t believe that Joe Biden is THIS naive. Yes Joe, Donald will play by the rules this time. You can already tell by his very reasonable cabinet picks. Fucking unbelievable.

Expand full comment

Keep in mind that SCOTUS gave TRUMP carte blanche to do anything. I have no doubt they'd wiggle out of their previous ruling on immunity if Biden did anything that would hurt their king.

The biggest mistake of Biden's Presidency 🤨✌🏻💙

Had not Garland spent two years prosecuting the rioters before he appointed a Special Prosecutor, Trump would have already been convicted of conspiring and attempting to violently overthrow the 2020 Electoral College vote and installing fake Electors to prop Trump up again in the White House. Garland's lethargy or incompetence is the single most significant reason why Trump is out on the street instead of behind bars.

Expand full comment

And the irony is that those rioters will soon be free because Merrick neglected to prosecute Trump, who will pardon them all.

I'm sickened by the entire thing... I've decided to take a break from the downfall of our nation while I'm still traveling and when I get home, I'll continue to concentrate on local issues, like helping the kids at my local high school, where 95% of the kids live at, or below, poverty level. I'll trudge my way through when I'm ready. I'm not ready. I'm angry. I'm heartbroken and I'm exhausted. The entire world is watching TRump's Clown Car Cabinet picks with utter horror. I'm embarrassed to be from the USA right now. 😞

I remember living in Germany when we re-elected W. I can't imagine what it must be like now that we re-elected a noxious America-attacker.

my broken heart is in sync with your comments. I thought the twists and turns of 2025 were the birth pangs of a more just society. Now it appears we have a stillbirth. Or Trump figuratively performed one of those executions after a delivery that no one was doing.

As someone described it, America had an open book test (the election) and failed it.

Garland will be remembered as the worst AG under democratic leadership. We will move on.. I guess, in time.. but ffs, we have a right to be pissed for a while! What a complete failure and honestly, let’s just call it what it is..a fucking shitshow of pussy-footing democrats. I’ll never understand Garland’s hesitations. Ok he didn’t want it to look political… but boo hoo! Everything is political in that position. Take the heat and move on. Ugh😡

At age 74, I am literally weeping at the mess this country has become. Yes, Trump is the perpetrator of many unimaginable crimes. But the justice system has completely abandoned any plan to prosecute him. Of all his crimes, trying to overthrow our government in 2020, has to be the worst.

Now he will skate free, to continue his Dictatorship and take over the government in 2025, so he can get his revenge and retribution. The leaders at the DOJ have failed us. They have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives. History will judge them harshly.

Expand full comment

In addition to history, there is a good chance Trump’s DOJ will prosecute Garland for…prosecuting Trump. 😊

Expand full comment

It would serve Garland right.

Expand full comment

He has no reason at all for any revenge or retribution. Everybody has let him commit whatever crime he wants with impunity, the most coddled man in US history. He couldn't be luckier or more blessed.

Expand full comment

What really, really pisses me off about all these failures of the DOJ,. Us good people who voted for Democracy is left to deal with the megatons shitwaste from Garlands massive inability to see justice through. I believe that was his damn job! Thanks pal!

Exactly this. They will go on with their lives. We’re left to deal with the shitstorm.

Merrick Garland, the AG who is showing everyone that laws don't matter. The Wheels of Justice have plunged into a sand dune and there will be no Superman to extricate the carriage. How long before it occurs to people that maybe they don't need to pay federal income taxes, an example set by 47.

Expand full comment

I am too pissed to even drum up outrage. What has happened to this country? This is not the the way I was taught that the law works - the guilty were supposed to be punished. I was angry when tricky dick was pardoned - but nothing like like I am now. The 'retribution team' the orange anus is assembling would have been too embarrassing, incompetent, unqualified for any p-elect to propose. Along with the death of the law we have the death of honor and pride to deal with. Lies are truth, fraud is honest, wrong is right - are we in Wonderland because everything feels upside down and wrong side out? And I don't see a fix in sight...

It's a complete shock to the senses. To not be knocked flat by what has happened since 2016, is to be comatose.

The inmates have taken control of the asylum. I just don't/can't understand how so many have just gone off the deep end. I know the r/w christo-fascists have spent the last 50 years planning and implementing this takeover - but half the country has just laid down and said I'm ok with this. What happened to our moral compass, our pride of self and country? All the -isms have always been a part of who we are, but we were able to keep the worst of the worst in check - now they're running the government. Hindsight may be 20/20 for the hoodwinked who voted for this, but there is no do-over and I hope they like what they have ushered in.

“Wonderland.” THAT gets the closest to conveying how I now perceive…..everything? It’s like a bad acid trip; nothing makes sense, things melt and reform way too fast, there’s no rational way to anticipate the next reality-mutation, and there’s no end in sight. It’s terror at a primal level.

My brain is trying desperately to comprehend this new reality, so that it can do what brains do: assess, adapt, overcome, survive. The fact that it is such a massive struggle for my brain to even assess things tells me just how shattering Trump has been, and will be for us all; as a nation but also as human beings.

It’s just so terribly sad.

It feels to me not just a personal loss, but a societal loss - of all things normal and established. A turning away from the tenets of our founding documents and credo. The Preamble to our Constitution has been a beacon of freedom and inspiration for other nations to emulate; now, our government has been taken over by nihilists whose only goal is destroying what has taken decades to build while enriching themselves and their mil/billionaire bros. We pinned our hopes on the established rule of law, but the courts didn't save us - the felons won. What will be left after the next four-plus years will be anybody's guess - but I'm not optimistic.

Trump's AG appointment Pam Bondi says she will prosecute all the prosecutors. I hope she prosecutes Merrick Garland immediately and that he spends the rest of his life in jail. I truly mean this. THAT IS HOW PISSED OFF I AM RIGHT NOW!

Unfortunately it'll be the good people who will be persecuted.

Give’em hell, Earl! You are absolutely correct, and none of us should ever forget, or b forgive this traitorous abdication of duty on the part of our Justice Department, and the neglect shown by all members of congress and up to our President. We’ve been abandoned and shown contempt.

Among his many failures, Garland failed to bring due process and efficiency reforms to his Immigration Courts and tanked in his duty to defend the legal and human rights, as well as the human dignity, of asylum seekers. He avoided both the Immigration Courts and the border. Lives ands future that could and should have been saved were lost. He lacked the guts to bear witness to the irreparable human consequences of his poor performance and his tendency to “defend the indefensible.” That will be his legacy!☠️

He was an appalling AG.

Like Comey, Merrick Garland keeps his self-satisfied moral superiority intact while abetting in the destruction of humanity. I hope that destruction touches his life.

Thank you for the most sane and straight-forward analysis I have seen anywhere! I had always admired Merick Garland untill he dropped this most important ball, for which there was abundant evidence to put Donald Trump away for good. Now we face another disastrous four years of his evil blunders and national disgrace. We need an entirely new generation of Democratic leadership. I just hope we can find them in time!
