Thank you for keeping this open to those of us who are currently counting our pennies at the grocery store on limited income. I love to read your posts and the comments!
Happy birthday, Earl! Spring is coming, both literally and figuratively. I just want to be around when this nightmare ends. And the ending of it has already begun.
Earl I read over twenty substacks a day and yours is the best. You are a great succinct writer about the end of the world. Germany has 83 million people and we have 330 million. The Trump treason is way worse globally. I think the worst thing he has done is cut off USAID. Millions mostly children are already dead. Second is support the genocide in Gaza. Happy birthday to a great friend. We all love you Earl. You are a shining star in the darkness.
Happiest of birthdays a day early! 🥳 we celebrate you and your efforts to keep us informed and your reminders to stay on track and fight the good fight.
Please go ahead and delete looney comments without delay. You need to be the editor in charge. The writer will get the drift. We are all pleased with your performance and perspectives.
You're the best, Earl (how did you get from Eritrea to New Jersey?!), but I think you are wrong about the election. I think that the 2024 election was rigged by Musk (DOGE-like data manipulation) and this time they will harass voters as Steve Bannon described, also bomb threats like 2024, etc. This will unleash Civil War 2.0. Even if the election is allowed there will be endless court fights and possibly/probably a Bush/Gore outcome.
NOYB, I have been surprised that our Military has been so quiet. I think Generals Milley, McCafrey and others are talking with each other, and would oppose trump if he tried to take over. John NJ
My dear Earl…Happy Birthday friend. This fact makes me very happy…not just because we are in the neighborhood of same-age ness and thusly and luckily can understand the overall feel of the era. We can also understand the minutiae where so much of the history lives.
Just in case you may have spaced it (and I’d never begrudge a soul for forgetting)…I had my heart surgery on 1/9 into 1/10. Way more involved than surgical team anticipated BUT after 3.5 weeks in hospital, one week of that in cardiac rehab I’m happy to say I’m home! Receiving home rehab, Physical Therapy and Occupational therapy as long as I need it. Just thought I’d update. The intense pain, incision irritation, and overall anxiety that comes with such a major surgery could easily stop me but nope…nothing will. Thanks for caring…I carried your good thoughts into the OR with me and here I am feeling a tiny bit better every day. Thanks Earl‼️
Happy birthday 🎉🎁🎊🎂🎈my friend! I hope you have a wonderful day and a fantastic year ahead! That said, you are a few years ahead of me so I know you understand that every birthday is a true blessing. As we grow older, we tend to look back and wonder if we did the right thing each step of the way. I have to believe that you have done just that. The fact that you are still doing what you love proves that. I want to personally thank you for your service and strong voice in this fight for our democracy. You have no idea how much comfort that you give this angry old man. Truth be known, I thought I was one of the only people in our country that thought the way we do. You gave me hope. You gave me validation. You gave sanity in the midst of chaos.
I don’t have too many buddies left from my Navy days but I feel like you are one of them. I’m sure you still have a few veteran friends but sadly, I don’t anymore. Just one left now. I hope you outlive all your old buddies and that we both get see the orange blob serving time in a Super Max someday!
Cheers 🥂 to you ! Have great day tomorrow and a wonderful outcome to the November elections!
Happy Birthday! Thank you for your articles I always enjoyed reading them. I used to be a Washington Post subscriber but canceled my subscription over a year ago. It is a shame what happened to such an excellent newspaper. They should change their slogan to "We help killed democracy".
Happy birthday sir! I very much look forward to your words and find them to be a great distillation of my random thoughts and tantrums regarding our current plight. I'm keeping the light and the fight going here in my very red corner of Texas, and your words of support and encouragement make me more determined. Enjoy your day Earl!
Happy birthday and I too hope you will be here, not just next year, but for many to come as we need you and your honest journalism especially now.
The only reason I could become a paid subscriber is because my dog food is stacked up ahead since my service dog passed away and the trainee is much smaller.
That may sound silly but many of us are struggling and have to make choices like this so thank you for the free subscriptions; I used to be one.
Happy birthday to you, Earl!!! Wishing you the best, you deserve it! And I mean that most sincerely. I don't really understand why you felt unsure about the Inevitable piece. It prompted some eighty of us to comment - that's a great deal of thinking you inspired. You always provide good information, food for thought and positive encouragement. That's why we are all here. And bringing us together for each other is a very valuable service as we navigate the nightmare our country is going through. We appreciate you and what you do, please always know that! Enjoy your special day - celebrate you!
And I was probably one of them! The positive message was not missed, believe me. I just have to work through the negative stuff before I can get to the positive. That’s my makeup, nothing to do with your message or writing. You do good, do not change anything, please!!!

Thank you for being here.
Ditto.

Right on, Ann. Always love your optimism.

Well, I really appreciate you, Mary.

Roger that.
I agree

Nah.
We're going to kick their asses. And the more they yap, the worse it will be for them.
Well you're older and smarter and more experienced, but I hope we have enough military backup to do the kicking.
NOYB, I have been surprised that our Military has been so quiet. I think Generals Milley, McCafrey and others are talking with each other, and would oppose trump if he tried to take over. John NJ
Hope God's ears hear your mouth.
God I hope you’re wrong NOYB…..but I can certainly appreciate the possibility… so much madness…..and I agree- Earl is the e best!

It must feel so good to be home!
This news is the best birthday present I could get, Sara.

So much to go through and recover from. Wishing you continued improvement, long life and much happiness!

It was a great paper.
Happy Birthday Mr. Stephens! I hope we’re all here to celebrate your next birthday and the mental patient currently occupying the White House is NOT.
Say it, Mike!
Hoping your birthday gift next year is a country with Trump removed from our highest office.
Me, too, Cathy!
Hope your birthday is wonderful, and that many more are in store for you. Thank you for your great writing.
Thank you.
I hope you have a fabulous birthday, Earl!!
Thanks!

Texas is making some good trouble, my friend.

I get it, Diane. It is not easy for too many in America. Please give your new doggy a pat for me!

I think too many got caught up in what might happen, instead of what IS happening.
We're winning everywhere -- and big.
Thanks for the kind words.
