When I went to bed on November 5, 2024, I had a rock lodged in my stomach that stayed there for weeks. I knew we were in for something terrible and decided that I was going to investigate moving out of this country. I got a passport and I booked a trip to a little town in Portugal. I had planned to use it as a base to take a look around at the places along the coast, but without going into long and boring details, that didn’t happen. I had a to cut my trip short due to a number of factors. In the end, I saw that my higher self arranged it so I would not be moving out of the country. I know it was the right decision to stay, but I’ll be honest and tell you that there are days now when I think I could be in Portugal right now. But it wouldn’t shield me from this horror because I have a friend who lives there and she is scared to death. So it isn’t just Americans. The entire world is watching us and they are all extremely cognizant of the fact that we have a maniac in charge and he is in charge of this huge nuclear arsenal that he does not have the maturity to handle. I never thought that this would be my so-called golden years. But they are. I’m just one person, but I will do everything in my power, until my dying day if need be, to put an end this filthy scourge masquerading as government. It is exhausting, but I will never give up and I will never give in because as I’ve said on several occasions, the only way out of this is to go through it. I do have faith that we will prevail, but sometimes I just have to break down and cry to relieve the pressure. It really helps to be a member of the Substack community of kind and sane people. I know there are some who are right wing apologists here and don’t share my views, but I just block them for the fools they are.
Ann, I have felt the same about leaving, but I've been to Europe serving in the USN and it's a lovely place and my time there was a long time ago, 50 years back, on the other hand my children are here and my grandchildren are here, they can't leave and I can abandon them now if the face of this. If I were the NATO countries I would all get together and decree that no US citizens are welcome in any of their countries and as a European, I would not come here. Some of that is already happening, at least from what I am observing, let me explain. My wife and I are snowbirds and travel to southern Florida for the three months of Jan., Feb., and March. We have been doing this for about 7 years and this year, it is dead, and tourism is way off and it will be interesting to see if this holds true through spring break. If it's any consolation, we are not coming back next year and maybe never again to Florida unless it's on the way to a different destination. We are making tentative plans to visit blue states going forward. I know there are none in the south where it is warm, but that could always change. I have rambled on here long enough, but I think the economic tide is turning and not in a good way. Stay here, stay focused, and we will get through this and bring these murderers to justice.
The Palm Springs, California areas are in the south, albeit, across the country, we have beautiful weather 8 months a year, and we are definitely a Blue state! Because so many Canadians have sold their properties here, or have put them on the market, for sale and/or rent, there are a lot of great deals to be had, whether you want to buy a little place, or rent one. We would welcome you with open arms! 😊

Interesting in your comment about Canadians leaving and it's the same here in Florida as real estate prices are depressed and I don't expect that to change until there is a substantial change in the WH.
I moved to a wonderful gated 55+ community in northwest Desert Hot Springs, to live full-time, just a short, 15 minute drive from Palm Springs, in October 2021. My home cost about half of what I'd have paid in Palm Springs, in a much quieter neighborhood and up in the Shadow Hills, where it's a bit cooler in the summer than P.S. After living on an island in the Pacific Northwest my entire life, I needed to get out of the cold, wet and dreary weather that is present 8-9 months per year. My former PNW neighbors came for a visit a couple of years ago and debated on buying a small Park model mobile home in Almar Acres, a beautiful, gated 55+ community here in Desert Hot Springs. They made the leap last year and for $60,000, purchased one. They cooperatively own the land with the other tenants but you can only live there nine months per year. Taxes are included in your HOA fee of $110 per month. Water and power is inexpensive, especially if you have solar panels and water is about $10 a month. Amazingly, they have their own well with natural spring water, including geothermally heated, mineral spring water, which they fill their pool and hot tubs with! The prices have come down exponentially since TRump took office. FYI: I chose to buy my stick-built stucco home up in northwest Desert Hot Springs, because of the water situation here. We have plenty of it! We have an incredible aquifer, that is plentiful and has won worldwide awards for its quality. As I mentioned, there are a lot of seasonal rentals here, too. Ann, thanks for sharing your story here. We were on a similar path . A few nights before Nov 5 2024 my husband and I were celebrating our birthdays in Sedona . I asked him this question : “will you really be able to leave your mom and your kids and move to Portugal? “ Portugal was our escape plan if he was “ elected “ again . We had applied for citizenship in 2023 through a visa process. I knew the answer was no and I knew it was the right one . How could we leave his then 94 year old mom here? We moved to San Diego instead, near more family. We can still go but I know we won’t although I often wish we had left a year ago . I share your feelings. I’m 68 and wanted to have a sweet retirement. Instead I’m here and i believe it’s for a reason . Maybe we’re like the legendary peacock who eats the poisonous plants in the forest that other animals can’t eat so they can live . We’re still following through on the rigorous process to get the visa but I don’t see us leaving, I see us staying to fight right alongside you and all the good people here .

I thought it would be an ICE agent being killed by a legal gun owner defending themselves. However, I do think this needed to happen in order for us white people to wake up. While this is still not the persecution because of our skin color that our BIPOC friends have experienced, it is a starting wake up call that nobody is safe from being murdered by this out of control administration and the out of control people they have employed. The problem is not all law enforcement officers, it is THESE DHS law enforcement officers who have been given authority to do whatever they want to the people in this country. And it is not acceptable and we must make it stop.
I think the good news is that more white Americans ARE waking up. And now that they are seeing the truth about this administration, we can come together to take down this racist and fascist regime and re-create our country into one that loves, honors and lifts up everyone regardless of your skin color.

Additionally, the fact that hundreds are taking to the streets to watch a procession of Buddhist monks walking to DC shows me people do want peace and compassion, empathy, not hate and brutality. I was on the side of the road as the monks walked through Salisbury NC. The crowd was an incredible mix of people who were respectful and in awe of each step we witnessed. If these people truly felt and desire the peace exuded by these brave, precious men (and they vote), I feel a tinge of hope for our country. 🩷 to them.

Yes, I had all those feelings when Renee Good was murdered. I thought and I prayed there would be no more. I was wrong!
This has to stop. This Nazi wannabe organization needs to be removed from the face of this earth. I am going to watch the NFL playoffs shortly because I want to forget about ICE for six hours. I do know that that tomorrow morning, all those afore mentioned feelings will return. The pit in my stomach will return. The very sick feeling that I have had for the last 24-hours will be back. ICE is acting as a Gestapo, as Brown Shirts. There’s no denying and no spinning it in some other direction. They are killing American citizens in violation of the Bill of Rights, and that means in violation of the Constitution of the United States.
I never thought I would live to see a truly lawless United States government, ignoring the rule of law that I saw until now as sacrosanct. How about you? You’re an officer of the United States government. You ok with murdering a citizen, an American woman in her car, on a residential street by masked men? You ok with gang-tackling, kicking, pepper-spraying and then gang-shooting a VA employee, a nurse and, again, a citizen, for god’s sake, because he tried to help a woman who had been pepper-sprayed?
I’m not OK. This is being done in my name — and yours, and all Americans’ — with our tax dollars.
Step up. Be a Republican voice that says I will not vote to fund any more of this!
Then take it a step further. Co-sponsor a bipartisan bill that address these injustices — this corrupt “immigration operation” and these corrupt murders that are more about obtaining election data than undocumented immigration, as it turns out. Pass a law that reorganizes DHS, that makes ICE professional law enforcement and puts it back at the border policing immigration and customs enforcement, not occupying American cities against the wishes of American citizens.
Be a leader, be a man among all these scared, mousy, self-serving Congressmen and Congresswomen.
