In Oregon where fireworks are legal (a discussion for another day), there are tents in parking lots all over the place that sell them. In the past, you'd hear firecrackers 10 days ahead of July 4. Last year, crickets. This year, quieter than crickets. People are not feeling the love of country, not in a celebratory mood.
My fireworks stash, like my champagne and my American flag, is in storage and won't be touched until the glorious day when Trump is removed from office, either by Americans who've come to their senses, or sweet relief provided to the nation by the grim reaper.
Pretty similar in the small town where I live in south central Iowa. In previous years (especially the year of the Covid money) the obnoxious noise began mid June and continued until nearly mid July. This year (thankfully) it’s been very quiet. Only a few random firecrackers on various evenings. I wonder if it isn’t because people don’t have a ton of extra money to burn (literally).
I too don’t care about the celebration………I just want our country back and the horrid chaos to be tamped down !
This year I have no desire to celebrate the Fourth of Lies. And I will wait to see what happens in November because I fear every dirty trick Republicans will pull to rig the midterms.
If July 4 were the date of Trump’s funeral, I would gladly celebrate it while listening to news of his treacherous HERITAGE-sponsored gang fighting over who will succeed him.
I say, fuck the 4th this year and let's hold on celebrating and save it for the "drop dead" day. Then shoot off fireworks 24/7. That day will go down in the history books as one monumental moment. I live for the moment.
As an add to what I said yesterday is, November 3rd as a monumental moment, it's our only hope. All of us who served this nation in any time period, dead or alive, we didn't sign up for this crap.
Independence Day, at this point, is a day that calls to mind nothing more than the betrayal of the courage, ideas, and ideals of the founders, and the betrayal of all of those Americans who fought, died, and sacrificed to sustain that vision in American democracy, decency, and the rule-of-law from 1776 to 2016.
My American flag will be in storage for the duration. I will, however, be flying my FDT (Foxtrot, Delta, Tango) and State of Maryland flags as I grill a couple burgers and hope for better days ahead.
It IS a betrayal to all our Veterans, absolutely. Infuriates me beyond words the disrespect shown all who served. Breaks my heart for my Grandfather, Father and Uncle who sacrificed so much for our freedom and democracy. They will suffer an eternity of misery - hell awaits them! I really need to believe that!

You are putting a lot of faith in our feckless judicial system. The Supreme Court has enabled Trump to get away with more than anyone ever has. Even when found guilty, he plays them with appeals and delays. Who says justice cannot be bought?
No private citizen in the midst of a trial can go out and condemn the judge and his daughter and not be put in jail for intimidation.
Sadly, Russ, you are correct. In theory, as the highest court in our land, the Supreme Court should have the last word on judicial matters. But the current conservative majority of justices is so over the top corrupt that they are incapable of administering true justice. To make things worse, the only higher authority is the entity we call God, and since these creeps worship, only money, divine justice and/ or karma doesn’t scare them one bit. We need to have an emergency constitutional amendment that allows Supreme Court justices to be elected and punished/removed for any corrupt activities in which they engage. They must not be allowed to accept favors or behave above the laws on which they were sworn into office.
Start with Judge Cannon in Miami for her bizarre rulings against Jack Smith in the Trump documents case. That case needs to be revisited and retried in a sane court.
I now hear John Bolton was found guilty for far fewer document violations. Potentially facing prison. Bolton is a true patriot who has stood up to Trump. We now see the full extent of Trumps reach for those he does not like. I am shocked that Bolton knowing he was on the target list and did not protect himself.
