It is truly disheartening to see the Democrats cave so easily.

NOTHING is worse than what Jared Polis did in Colorodo... It seems that at least a third of the Democratic party are at best republican lite... some like Fetterman are full fledged republicans.

That Colorado thing has me positively fried, man.

Megan Ross's avatar

Me too. My first thought was, who paid him off? Yes, I've become that cynical...

I’ll have to look up what happened in Colorado.

Strange coincidence the GOP's Supreme Court judges behave like they're in the epstein files.

Ilene Winn-Lederer's avatar

If true, it certainly wouldn’t surprise me since the conservative majority is so slavishly beholden to the Trump regime and their billionaire sponsors.

Your criticism of the six Supreme Court so-called justices is more than fair.

Full disclosure: I’ve been unfairly critical of Bob Dylan for more than six decades. To be fair to myself, it wouldn’t surprised me if Bob’s been unfairly critical of Bob for six decades. We should be thankful that he wasn’t like everyone else — pretending not to see what was coming — instead of jumping to the dubious conclusion that he was wrong because he didn’t know precisely how long it would take.

So … to be more specific … the “dubious conclusion” is that the first one now will later be last right away. It was dubious because MY brain added the last two words (even though trying to be patient for decade after decade not knowing when it will happen is frustrating).

Now … “the slow one” (aka: me) suddenly got fast when a “the best time for the first one now to later be last was six decades ago and the second-best time is now” idea popped in my head, then the “First Family” concept popped into my head, then the “Oh … I get it. It’s the other way round!” idea popped into my head, and then my already very high opinion of Bob suddenly improved significantly. And I say “fast” because all the popping happened in rapid succession.

So, in practical terms, from Honest Abe & Company to Dissembling Don Limited, tick tock. And known that when you pretend you’re being threatened, or that it’s a surprise to see the karma seeds you’ve been planting everywhere are growing, all we’re going to say is, “get a bathrobe” (metaphorically speaking).

What a great slogan! “When the people lead, the leaders will follow”. Deserving of a poster and a T-shirt.

I could not believe Polis commuted that damn traitor’s sentence. As far as I’m concerned he’s toast. 86 him!

Welcome to the land of the tall pines! I was born and raised in North Carolina. I have spent virtually my entire life here except for short stints in Alaska and Oklahoma as a baby and toddler. I have lived on the coast for over 40 yrs. I love it except for the hard headed bigots and hate mongers. I just stay away from them wherever possible. Hopefully the upcoming election in the fall with provide us with Dems in the majority in the state legislature. The only member of the GOP who accomplished positively for the state in the last 10 yrs was Dale Folwell, the state treasurer. Trump did not support him when he ran for governor in 2024 and he lost to worst scourge to hold office in NC, Mark Robertson.

If you speak anywhere around to state please let us Substack followers know. I would like to be there.

Democrats are in on it. All of it. I am absolutely disgusted by the party to whom I have given all but one vote in my entire life. The Democrats should have been rioting in the streets when the US Supreme Court STOLE the Presidential election right out of Al Gore’s hands after the Fla Supreme Court decided the recounts should and would continue. Look where we are 26 years later. We all swallowed that defeat instead of pushing back. That ONE event in history was more consequential than 9/11 and every single thing that has come after it. Where was Democratic leadership that fateful day in December 2000? We swallowed it and then choked as we try to get down our Christmas dinner, and they’ve been choking us ever since. It’s one thing to be magnanimous and a good sport but it’s another to just roll over every time the opponent plays dirty, breaks all rules and believes without question that the end ALWAYS justifies the means. 26 years of this shit. Look where we are. You’re quoting Tom Petty, Earl. So I’ll quote Rufus Wainwright. “I’m so tired of America.” FTS!

It’s a damn recurring insult, brother.

You are correct about Spanberger. I figured she would be moderate on all counts. She has taken some more progressive stands like on signing a law to ban (new) assault weapons, but I feel she is trying to keep the moderates happy so she will not speak up on redistricting. It's up to us to show her she would be wise to court the progressives. However I have to remind myself that until George Floyd and BLM, there was a group of white boys circling on the sidewalk in front of a church by the VMFA , everyday, carrying their Confederate flags and spouting their crap to any who would listen. She did graduate from a suburban high school here in Richmond. I taught in those west end county schools for 30+ years, and believe me, the typical Democrat here is not like your strong , fighting Wisconsin Democrat. Yet!

D. Earl Stephens ✍️'s avatar

Thanks for the scene-setter, Barbara.

I just don't understand her complete concession and inability to speak and educate Virginians on this urgent matter.

Right on, Earl. Most Dems are just not wired to be ruthless undemocratic power grabbing soulless anti-American liars.

I clearly remember the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act signings in ‘64 and ‘65. I was 12 & 13, respectively. I remember being horrified by what occurred in Selma as the evening news that my Dad watched religiously, be it Cronkite or Huntley-Brinkley. The non-censored videos of the beatings inflicted by police on the protesters, including hero John Lewis. They sicced their German Shepards and Billy clubs on any black man. Even as young as I was, I’d been raised by two southern born-bred white parents and thankfully exposed to all of the evils of the segregated South. We would drive, as a family, to both of my grandparents’ homes every other summer. Southern Indiana and N. Miami Beach. I will never forget my Dad stopping at an ice cream place for a pit-stop. 2 windows-“Whites” “Colored”, 2 drinking fountains, “Whites” “Coloreds”, and 2 restrooms…not “Ladies” “Men”…but, yup “whites” “coloreds”. I was about 11 then. The summer after JFK’s assassination. I can play that scene at will and that day cemented what racism meant. I Thank you, Earl, for telling your story and giving us a platform to tell ours. What I would give for the ability to sit and talk with you for a few. Thanks so much for “Enough Already”

Well, thanks for being here, Sara.

Really appreciate you.

What is keeping these Democrats from going rat shit crazy over these MAGA edicts.

This is the most corrupt regime we’ve seen ever.

So what keeps these Democrats from bashing heads with these ‘militant ignorants.’?

I hear people all the time say “ well there is nothing we can do , so calm down.”

If that is the answer we’re going with, we’re done with Democracy and worse , accepting Putins plan through Trump. A total disaster.

Find out who’s organizing seriously against this corrupt regime and join in . We must move against them .

Make sure you’re registered to vote.

Make sure you’re ready to fight .

They are acting like we have all the time in the world.

WE DON'T.

Susan Rose's avatar

You're right. There is not one more minute to waste. The problem with the Democrats is that they always try to play by the rules. So proper and polite. Those days are long gone, and that method is outdated. Time to learn the new rules and throw that outdated rulebook out! We are long overdue in bringing backbone and fire to this damn fight ...

Agree with every word - could not understand Spanberger at all - I was furious.

Also, having just relocated myself - every frigging day there's a new hurdle that has to be dealt with. So frustrating! I totally empathize.

Sorry you are dealing with that.

It's endless.

In Durham now, following emergency surgery in South Carolina on the very day of our move 7 days ago. Settling in will just have to wait. Movers in Charleston accidentally smashed the rear windshield of our car on the same day as the move and the emergency surgery. So it’s been interesting. I keep it in perspective: I’m not in Gaza, not in Ukraine, so I am truly blessed.REALLY glad to hear that the voter registration will be easy. NOT glad to hear that DMV in North Carolina is just as bad as it was in South Carolina.

Holy cow!

I'm sorry for all that, and thankful for your perspective. It is lacking in so many ...

I was taught how to live in a place of deep gratitude for every day, every night, and sometimes every hour after my daughter was born critically ill. It’s a long and wonderful story, but I was taught how to live that way by a black nurse’s aide who barged in my room one day, not knowing me at all, and telling me what the Holy Spirit had told her to tell me: that I was to thank God every night if my daughter was still alive, and every morning if she survived the night. It sounded insane, and I was shocked by her behavior. (She didn’t mention the Holy Spirit till we spoke a year later.) My beloved baby was given no possibility of survival, according to the neonatologists. But I did what Florence had told me to do and my life was forever changed. Every moment with my daughter was sheer joy, even if I was lying in the bed in the pediatric ICU holding her in my arms, awaiting an emergency procedure to try to save her life at age 18 months. Our lives have been that way for the past 31 years, and I am thankful for every single day with her. I came to understand that this is what “living in the moment” is all about. I had an excellent teacher: the Holy Spirit, as transmitted to me by a truly beautiful old lady, Mrs. Florence Gaillard.

Susan Rose's avatar

You are an amazing and strong woman! Living in the moment as best you can, and being grateful for each day is the most important life lesson for surviving life's challenges. Hold those sweet memories close to your heart, they are precious. God bless ...

kdsherpa's avatar

Your kind and generous words make me smile and feel warm inside. You are right. They are precious, indeed. And may God bless you, too.

I agree with everything you’ve said. I don’t understand why the Democrats writ large still apparently believe that the same rules still apply when the Republicans everywhere have made it abundantly clear that they do not.
